The Tretyakov family rented this house, where the brothers lived until they were 10 and 12 years old. Then there were communal apartments. After all, it has been standing in desolation for a long time.

Restoration work began in 2015. The opening of the museum coincides with two significant dates – the 190th anniversary of Pavel Tretyakov’ birthday and the 165th anniversary of the Tretyakov Gallery.

The concept of the museum is a story about the family, Moscow merchants and the history of the collection.
